Dear Miss Howell,

With reference to recent telephone conversation (kiss Howell Miss Clark), I enclose, in original, a letter dated the 2nd May from Mr. R. I. Plumer enquiring about his claim for compensation for war losses incurred in Hong Kong, together with copies of previous correspondence between him and this Department and saving rams to and from Hong Kong.

As you know, it was finally decided not to institute a scheme of War Damage Compensation from Hong Kong Government funds and Kr, Plummer can hope for nothing from that direction. I understand that although Mr. Plummer's commission in the British Army was granted after the 3rd September 1939 he may be eligible for an award under the new provisions of your scheme. I should be grateful, therefore, if you would deal with this enquiry. If it transpires that

Mr. Plummer is ineligible under the War Office scheme, no doubt you will let me know.

Mr. Plumer's letter has not been acknowledged.

MISS H.M. HOWELL, WAR OFFICE F3A,

Yours sincerely,

LANSDOWNE HOUSE,

BERKELEY SQUARE, W.1.
